One of the bands of the jacket got round his neck and he died of asphyxia. August 16. Fatal injuries were received by Mrs Catherine Goodwin, aged about 38, of Ponsonby. when she fell from an inward bound tramcar in Karangahape road. She was taken to the hospital in a taxi, but was dead on arrival. As far as is known there were no eye-witnesses of the accident. It is believed that Mrs Goodwin was standing on the front platform of a tramcar which was slowing down for a stop, and lost her balance, so that she fell heavily, striking her head, BOY DROWNED IN RIVER (PRESS ASSOCIATION TCLEOUAM.) NEW PLYMOUTH, August 16. The overturning of a sledge in the flooded Kapuni river, South Taranaki, resulted in the drowning of Gordon Prestidge, aged 15, Heroic but unavailing efforts at rescue were made by his brother Leonard, aged 22. The body was swept downstream, and was recovered half a mile away.
