SWAN EGGS
'i'u TUB EDITOB OP THE MtKSS. Sir, —I noticed the other day that the Acclimatisation Society intends gathering swan eggs to help add to its funds. It would be interesting to know how the society stands with regard to the poultry tax. If it is going to put swan eggs on the market in competition with the poultry farmers, it should pay the tax.—Yours, etc., MINORCA. August 13, 1934. [The Acclimatisation Society had no intention of collecting swan eggs for commercial purposes, stated the president, Mr F. Steans, when the above letter was referred to him. The decision of the council of the society was that, if the condition of the lake suggested, that swan eggs would be wasted, they would be collected and used in the society's hatchery. It was not expected that there would be any surplus: but if there were, the eggs would probably be sold as pulp.]
