BODY TO BE SENT TO CHINA
O EMBALMING OF CHINESE The body of Mr Young Sing Kow, head of the firm of Chew Lee Young, Chinese merchants, of 8 Ferry road, who died two days ago, is being embalmed by Dr. A. B. Pearson, at the Christchurch Hospital, so that it may be sent to China. It is the desire of all Chinese, irrespective of religion, that their spirits may join those of their ancestors, but it is a costly matter to send a body from New Zealand to China, and it is said that this is the first time at least for many years that it has been done. Mr Young Sing Kow was 59 years of age, and he occupied a prominent position in the Chinese community in Christchurch. Only a man of substance would have such an honour paid to him. It may be some time after the embalming is finished before the body can be shipped to China, as there may be difficulty in finding a boat to take it A Japanese vessel will not be used.
