HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS The management committee of the Canterbury Horticultural Society met last evening, Mr M. J. Barnctt presiding. Mr W. J. Humm was appointed a member of the vegetable committee in the vacancy created by the death of Mr J. T. Sinclair, and Mr T. V. Grimley was appointed to the fruit committee. It was decided to record appreciation of the work of Mr M. J. Barnctt and his staff in arranging a demonstration of rose-pruning at Linwood Park. Mill. L. Darton (secretary) said that the demonstration had been very greatly appreciated by the hundred rose-grow-ing enthusiasts present. The following were appointed special stewards for the year:—Spring show, Messrs M. J. Barnert, J. A. McPherson, and L. B. Hart; rose show, Messrs M. Prycc-Jones, L. T. K. Allison, and E. E. Wiltshire; gladiolus and dahlia show, Messrs W. Main, T. V. Grimley, and J. S. Hawkes; chrysanthemum show, Messrs C. 11. Moir, 11. E. Otley, and L. T. K. Allison. The following were appointed judges for the spring show;— Daffodils, Messrs H. J. Poole (Lower Hutt) and Allen Gibson (Hawera); cut blooms and pot plants, Messrs M. J. Gilpin and R. J. Christensen; vegetables, Mr T. V. Grimley; decorative, to be appointed by women's committee.
