MAN DROPS DEAD Mr Arthur Thyncs Reid, foreman of the pattern-shop at Anderson's foundry, collapsed and died while at his work, about nine o'clock yesterday morning. Mr Reld, who lived at 5?2 Moorhouse avenue, had been suffering from heart trouble, and was attended by a doctor recently.
CAR HITS POWER POLE John Charles Howarth, a plumber, of 255 Worcester street, received head injuries and shock, and his passenger, Mrs Betty Rivier, of 248 Manchester street, shock and abrasions, wheii a car driven by Mr Howarth struck an electric power pole in Marshland road yesterday morning. The accident happened just before 7 o'clock, when the car skidded and ran head-on into a power pole near the corner of McSaveney's road. The pole was snapped off about six feet from the base, and carried a few yards on the radiator of the car. Apparently Mrs Rivier was thrown through the roof of the car, and she was unconscious when the Christchurch Free Ambulance arrived and conveyed the two injured persons to hospital. The front of the car was extensively damaged, the radiator being pushed in and the windscreen shattered. The condition of both persons was reported to be satisfactory last evening.
