EYRE COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting" of the Eyre County Council was attended by Messrs H. E. Evans (in the chair'. 11. A. Bennett, J. Cowens, R. O. Dixon, and J.; W. Frizzell. A vote of sympathy with Mr F. L. i Parnham ("the chairman), in.his illness; was carried. I It was decided not to agree to an increase in the salary of the traPT-c inspector nor to the wages of the Rangiora County Council's typist. It was decided to agree to the suggestion of the Main Highways Board that when bus or other services ran through three adjacent licensing districts the board should arrange that only one license need be issued. ! It wrr. agreed to give a donation of j £3 to the Rangiora High School. i It wn;; decided to aopoint Messrs! A. T. Giles, M. S. Bowen. H. \V. Beal, K. R. Bennett, and W. Martin as additional trustees of the Eyreton cemetery ;n addition to the present surviving trustees, Messrs R. O. Dixon and J. Lord. It was decided to strike a general; rate of Jd in the pound in bo(h ridings, one penny in the Kaikainui settlement j loan area and to give a discount of 5! per cent, ofl the general rate if paid! within one month of the date of demand. The clerk reported having banked £177 during the month and that the overdraft when moneys due were received from the Highways Board and others would be £7OO and that the county was in the better position by about £4OO than at this time last year. The engineer reported that all roads were in fair order, that the dismantling of the old girder bridge was well under way, and that the formation of the new road to connect Coutts Island with Belfast had been commenced.
