TEACHERS' DAY

The fourth annual field-day for teachers and former teachers will be held on the Harewood course on Mc day, August 20. The competition in the morning will be a-bogey match for the Pedagogic Bowl, presented by Mr A. E. Blank, and in the afternoon a match, primary versus post-primary, for the Pedagogic Pebble, the intrinsic value of which has been estimated at twopence. This, however, is no ordinary pebble; it was never gathered on the sea-shore. It is just an ordinary brick ingeniously and appropriately adorned and surmounted by various heraldic devices, including a golfer rampant upon a field vert. The motto inscribed is "omnes per golfum iuncti in uno." Mr A. K. Anderson, the past president, has presented a handsome trophy to be held by the competitor returning the best net score in the afternoon match. Entries have been received from as far as Timaru and New Plymouth, and a good muster is anticipated. AVONDALE CLUB The following is the draw for the first qualifying round of the club championship to be played at Avondale over the week-end, eight to qualify over two rounds. 'Players over 15 handicap must declare by entry before starling out. in which competition they propose to participate. The club championship will be of two' qualifying rounds oC ttroke play, best eight gross scores to qualify and play off under match conditions. The junior cup will be of two qualifying rounds of stroke play, open to players whose handicaps at time of entry are 16 or more, 16 to qualify and play off under match conditions. A stroke handicap will be played in conjunction with these qualifying rounds.

As a result of his excellent performance in the second round of" the president's troph- competition, F. B. Sabiston won easily from the rest of the competitors. E. J. Watts, who was runner-up, played consistent golf from his low handicap. The draw for the semi-finals in the captain's trophy competition is:—J. Lovett (17) plays F. B. Sabiston (17); E. W. Flower (10) plays winner -of J. M. Rrid (12) and S. O'Callaghcn (10). Following is the list of matches which have been arranged for the remainder of the season:—August 18, mixed foursome flag match; August 25, four-ball bogey match; September 1, medal round; September 8, sealed aggregate stroke handicap; September 15, Stableford bogey match; September 22, medal round; September 29, closing day.
