London suffered a deluge, and so did Leeds. In London and southern suburbs dozens of houses were struck by lightning, and a fire wa.s started on Hammersmith Bridge when the cables underneath the bridge fused. A fire brigade put out the flames. Many road.-:, including some streets m centra! London, were for a lime inches deep in water, arid several suburban train services were held up. The storms caused r.o direct casualties, although two youth. l were killed in tratlic accidents attributable to the weather
