ASHBURTON PERSONAL Mr and Mrs L. Maginness, Graham's road, Tinwald, left last evening en route to Australia on a holiday trip. They will be away about a month. Injured Man Improves It was reported yesterday that Timothy Lineham, who was admitted to the Ashburton Public Hospital on Saturday with a fractured skull, through being knocked down by a motor-car at Rakaia, showed a little improvement. Lecture on Gatlipoli Campaign A lecture on the Gallipoli campaign from the time the men were in camp in New Zealand until the evacuation was given to a gc„d muster of mem- , bers of B Squadron, Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry, on Tuesday evening by Captain K. J. Walker (adjutant) Captain J. McArthur, of Nelson, was also present. Major A. J. Nicoll, on behalf of the men, thanked Captain J Walker for his address and extended a | welcome to Captain McArthur. Before his departure with the New Zealand All Black football team for \ Australia, Mr C. Oliver was farewelled by the members of the Rakaia Football Club. Mr R. Breach, who presided, thanked Mr Oliver for his many services to the Rakaia Football Club and wished him a successful tour. On behalf of members he presented Mr Oliver with a gift. Mr Oliver suitably returned thanks. On Monday and Tuesday a refresher course for the teachers of '.he schools in the Rakaia district was held at the Rakaia schools. 'Classes in music and drawing were conducted by Mr Ernest Jenner and Mr James Masterton, respectively. COLDSTREAM A meeting of the Coldstream subbranch of the Plunket Society was held recently, Mrs D. S. Studholme presiding. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs G. McKenzie in the death of her father. It was arranged to hold a dance on August 24 and a hare drive on August 2. The Lowcliffe Tennis Club is organising a drnce, to be held in the Whare, Coldstream, on August 17. HINDS There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre tournament in aid of the school funds.
