DUTCH TO FLY TO AUSTRALIA

COMPETITION IN AIR SERVICES ST UPRISE ANNOL':»;'H.\IENT LONDON, July J. The manager of the Iloyal Dutch Air Lines (K.L.M.), Mr Plesman, revealed to-day that his company intends to extend its services to' Australia as a preliminary to co-opera-tion with imperial Airways. Ltd., in an equitable division of t. .flic. Mr Plesman, who is an outstanding figure in European aviation, added that the K.L.M. machines were always fully loaded and there was plenty of traffic for two services to Australia. K.L.M. would add a Douglas aeroplane and a Fokkcr 36 to the Batavia route in November, and these larger machines would increase the tratlic. Any attempt to exclude efficient foreign aircraft hampered the progress of aviation and national industries. Moreover, Asia was awakening and every friendly aeroplane passing to Australia strengthened the defences of the British Empire.
