♦ TO Ml-; HKI.I) IN SOITII AFRICA ('able advice has been received by Ihe chairman of (he New Zealand Section of the Empire Press Union that, the dates for the fifth Imperial Press Conference in South Africa next year have been unavoidably changed from May and June to February and March. The programme will now bagin in Cape Town on February 4 and end on March .'2l. In his letter conveying the invitation Major .1, ,1. Astor, president of the Empire Press Union, makes the following obscrvations: "The invitation is for a visit of six and a half weeks in South Africa. It is proposed that the conference should be in two parts—three days in Cape Town during the first week and two concluding days in Johannesburg subsequently.

"Arrangements are being made for an extensive tour <i'or which the Government of South Africa would provide two special trains), which would include visits to Kimberley. .Pretoria, Blomfontcin. Zuluiand. South Rhodesia. Victoria Falls, Bechuanaland. Basufoland, the Matoppo Hills, and the Kruger National Park, and would show as many aspects and activities of the country's life as can comfortably be managed in the time.

"Next year is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Union of South Africa, and promises to bo one of special importance and interest in the country's political and economic development. "This visit, too, will be the first, by the Empire Press Union to South Africa. The press of South Africa attach considerable importance to it. and it is significant that newspapers of all political parties have joined in the invitation to us. I understand that they are receiving Kenerous support, both moral and practical, from their Government.''
