ASSESSMENT COURT
FIVE OBJECTIONS HEARD Five objections to Government valuations were hear,' bv the Assessment Court at C'hristchurch yesterday from holders of Crown land at the Wellburn Settlement, Leeston. Two objections were allowed, the court upholding the valuations in the three other cases. Mr J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., presided, and with him were the Government assessor (Mr W. Cunningham) and the Ellesmere County Council assessor (Mr T. A. Stephens). All the objectors were represented by Mr D. E. Wanklyn. The Government valuations were sustained in the cases of W. R. Fraser, R. V. Aitken, and H. K. Boyce. Fraser's property, cf 83 acres 24 perches, was valued at £30(30 value £2150), Aitken's, of 04 acres 1 rood 3 perches, was valued at £3135 (unimproved value £2350), and Boycc's, of 101 acres 2 roods 13 perches, at £2915 (unimproved value £2330). Revisions of valuations were allowed in the applications of A. Scott and E. C. Sunckell. Scott's property, of 81 acres 25 perches, was valued at £2555, with an unimproved value of £2IOO. The unimproved value was amended to £ 1885, the value of the improvements standing, making an improved value of £2340. The unimproved value of Sunckell's property, of 120 acres 34 perches, was revised from £2BBO to £2400, the value of improvements. £720, remaining unchanged. To deal with objections in the Kaikoura county the court will sit at Kaikoura to-day and to-morrow. Objections to valuations in Christchurch city will be heard on Friday, Saturday and Monday, and objections from properly owners in New Brighton will be considered next Tuesday and Wednesday.
