THREE PLAYERS NOT FIT TRAINING FOR CAxNTERRURY TEAM "Our disasters have started early" said Mr H. E. Davis, reporting to the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening on the players selected for training for the Canterbury representative team. Mr Davis said training had started that night, and had been quite satisfactory. However, A. Blakeley (Ellesmere> had broken a collarbone, and F. J. Wilson (University) had developed appendicitis and had undergone an operation. G. W. Thompson (Linwood) had noh quite recovered from his foot injury. A. P. Cobden (Old Boys) and G. T. Nolan (Old Boys) had been examined by a doctor and were fit. UNIVERSITIES' MATCH TEAMS TO MEET AT LANCASTER PARK The annual Rugby football match between teams from the University of Otago and Canterbury University College will be played at Lancaster Park to-day. The Otago team is at present equal in first place with Southern in the Otago Rugby Union's competition. Canterbury College, by its play in the competitions this season, has shown itself to be an erratic team, but it is capable of producing really good football. This the Otago team can be relied on to do, and if the Canterbury team strikes form, an excellent game should result. Last year the match was played at Dunedin, and was won by Otago by 28 points to 0. The main strength of the Otago team is in its backs, who form a dangerous and well-balanced combination, and who, over a period of years, have built up a reputation for brilliant Rugby. W. Dunne, one of the wing three-quarters, has played for the South Island, and is a particularly strong runner, J. M. Watt, the other v/inger, has been recently promoted to the team. He will be remembered as a fast quarter-miler. H. F. Fookes is a brilliant five-eighths, and his straight runs from the scrums are disconcerting to the opposition. It is unlikely that A. H. Andrews will be sble to play for Canterbury, as he is suffering from Influenza, and F. J. Wilson has been operated on for appendicitis.

Withell supported Mr McLachlan, but no action was taken.

Priddis reported that in the game he had refereed between the Celtic and Young Men's Christian Association fourth grade teams on Saturday, the Celtic team had walked off the field 14 minutes before the game was due to finish. During the game there had been too much talking and arguing, and he had had occasion to caution two Celtic players for insolence. He recommended that as the Ycung Men's Christian Association team was leading by 5 goals to I at the time, the game be awarded to that team. After discussion the secretary was instructed to write to the club secretary and the captain of the club in question, asking them to attend the next meeting of the committee. Mr H. Weatherhead presented a motion from the Referees' Association as follows:—"That clubs be allowed 10 minutes after official starting time, and if not ready to play, the game shall be awarded to the team which is ready; after asking if the team is willing to play short." It was decided to ask the Referees' Association to conform strictly to that rule.

The Westland Football Association wrote asking what the Canterbury Association's intentions were regarding the junior representative match for the Dewar Cup.
