A statement that the Maoris of Pukekohe were living in such poor conditions that they were a grave menace to the health of the community was made at a meeting of the Pukekohe Borough Council some time ago. At the last meeting of the council a reply was received to the complaint made to the Government about the matter, the Minister for Native Affairs stating, that it was impracticable for the Government to embark on an extensive programme of house building to relieve the situation. The health inspector said that some of the Maoris were living in sack huts and sleeping on wet floors.
