EIGHTH ROUND PLAYED The eighth round of the Canterbury' Hockey Association's competitions, which was played on-Saturday, provided fast, even jgameS. and in spite of the heavy £<r*mds good stick work was seen. Redcliffs extended University, which was lucky to notch the winning goal on time. A rearranged Technical team had the better of the game against Trinity in the first spell, which ended in Technical's favour by 2 goal to 0. Trinity settled down in the second half and finally won by 2 goals to 1. Sehvyn was defeated by Sydenham by 3 goals to 1 in a game that was more even than the . scores indicated. From tho ensuing bully Trinity broke away but Archer again saved. McCorraick secured and made a »oio tr.:i, a penalty corner resulting, which ■was finally cleared. Even play prevailed for » spell, then Trinity gained the upper hand and Archer turned a shot at goal outside. A fcuccession of corners in Trinity's favour was not .turned to advantage. A rafij-hit by Morris gave Jloir un opportunity on Technical's left, l/ester coming across to save. ETrinity launched a combined forward movement, Dairies' shot failing over the crossbar. Half-time score: Technical 1, Trinity 0. Trinity again mads the pace on'resuming and 'gained a corner, from which Bowden Centred to Bogers, who mis-hit, thus losing an almost certain goal. Trinity was now pressing hard and Davies mis-hit when conflicted with an open goal. Trinity maintained an advantage, poor circle work being responsible for its losing some likely chances. Davies centred nicely but Archer ■was on the alert and saved in great style. Loader sent his line away and Radcliffe finished off the movement by netting for Trinity. Technical 1. Trinity 1. Technical attacked, a hit-over resulting. From the resulting bully, D. McCormick secured and ended a good solo effort by finding the net. Trinity 2. Technical 1. A long hit by Meynell .found, t«e line and gave relief to Technical and from the roll-in. Trinity went away, a breach spoiling an exoellent chance. - Trinity was awarded a penalty corner, 'Meynell giving Technical respite by finding the line. Trinitv found the net twice, but breaches nullified both goals. Technical, by dogged attack, carried play to Trinity's circle, where Dick lost a grand opportunity. The game ended:

A centre from Kaycs dropped dead in front of the Redcliffs gen!, but the custodian saved. Prebble was responsible for a great run on thp Redcliffs righ't. Duffield'relieved from , a penalty corner to Redcliffs. Barnett made S. ■ solo run down the centre, but slipped when attempting a goal, a penalty corner teaulting. Mat thaws stopped a hard shot from Hayes, after filay from a penalty corner. A breach ended n an sustained attack by University. An infringement nullified a hard attack by edcliffs. McDonald dispatched Hayes on University's right. The Redcliffs defence survived the repeated thrusts of a sustained TJniversjty attack, until Barnett burst through to score a magnificent goal. ahe game ended: University 3, Redcliffs 2. Referees: Messrs A. Graham and R. Montgomery. SYDENHAM v. SELWYN Selwyn began the game with F. Bellamy absent, and Sydenham soon gained ground and peached the circle, where Johns went back snd saved smartly. Bellamy took the field five minutes after starting. Selwyn forced play to Sydenham's scoring area and Reid had no difficulty in stopping the shot. Edgington, however, followed in quickly and scored. Selwyn 1, Sydenham 0. Hore then put Selwyn on the attack by passing to fedgington, who centred well, but Reid blocked a great' shot by 01 iff. Selwyn returned and a penalty bully against S. Selwyn gained possession from the bully and a scramble in Sydenham's goal-mouth was ended by Reid putting the hall behind. V. %ells set the Sydenham forwards moving, Fnllwood transferring to Downie, who carried on to Selwyn's circle. Bellamy fell and Rusbridge, following in quickly, scored - with sn open goal. Sydenham 2, Selwyn X. Dash Stopped a Selwyn rush and despatched Simp-son-on ihe ri<fht and Bellamy turned a shot behind. Edgington made a good solo run to Sydenham's line, but Dash saw the danger snd cleared. Edgington sent in a good centre for Oliff to have a shot, which was stopped by Reid. A free hit in Selwyn s twenty-five gave Rusbridge a chance, but Johns hit out. Simpson intercepted a clearing shot by S. MALVERN LADIES' SUBASSOCIATION The Malvern Ladies' Sub-Association's six-a-sido tournament was held at the Greendale Domain on Saturday aftornoon. Eight teams competed. At the conclusion, the patron (Mr D. Mulholland) presented the trophies to the winners and congratulated all the teams on the very fine spirit in which the games were played. . The following were the results: — First Round—Greendale A beat Kirweo B, Darfleld A beat Hororata B. Darfield B beat Greandale B, Hororata A beat Kirwee A.
