GREY RIVER HOSPITAL
♦ PUBLIC MEETING DISCUSSES ADMINISTRATION (SPECIAL TO Tn« PRESS.) GREYMOUTH, June 22. At a largely-attended public meeting at Greymouth this evening, a resolution was passed that in the opinion of the meeting a public enquiry into hospital administration matters is desirable. The meeting was called by Mr F. L. Turley, who was the only member of the Grey River Hospital Board to vote against the recent motion to terminate the agreement with the medical superintendent (Dr. L. G. Bell), and the chief surgeon (Dr. J. F. C. Moore). Mr Turley criticised the administration of the hospital severely. A letter signed by five board members, including the chairman, Mr R. McTaggart, was read, offering to hold a public enquiry, one condition being that Mr Turley paid the costs of the enquiry and resigned his seat on the board if he was proved wrong. Mr Turley refused this condition. It was also decided at the meeting to call the attention of the Minister for Health to the motion that had been passed. Mrs K. O'Brien, a member of the board, who spoke briefly, said the board was afraid of no one and had absolutely nothing to hide.
