WINTER SPORTS FIXTURES

; PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY j COMPETITIONS REACH AN ; INTERESTING STAGE At the present stage of the various winter sports competitions a great deal depends on most of the matches, and accordingly there is particular interest in the sports fixtures which will be played to-day. Grounds will'again be soft and muddy, but their condition will be by no means as bad as it was a few weeks ago. Matches will be played and races run in all the regular winter competitions. The Albion team's defeat of Old Boys last Saturday has given'particular _ interest to the principal Rugby Union match, Albion v. Christchurch to be played on the Oval, at Lancaster Park to-day. In the first round Al-, bion defeated Christchurch, with the score 17 to 0, but there is not likely to be the same difference between the teams when they meet this afternoon, and a closely-fought game is anticipated. On the south ground,'Sydenham and Linwood will play, and at Rugby Park Old Boys will meet University. The fourth game will be Merivale v. Athletic, at Sunnyside. The Sunnyside team has the bye. All senior matches will begin at 2.45 p.m.

Association and League

Western will meet Technical Old Boys in the second round of the Chatham Cup Association football series, at English Park. Both teams have young' players who can be expected to provide plenty of bright football. Tho two Hurley shield matches will be St. Albans v. Thistle, at Malvern Park, and Rangers v. Nomads, at Richmond. Linwood has the bye. Senior matches will begin at 2.45 p.m. The principal Rugby League match will be New Brighton v. Addinglon, which will be played at Sydenham Park. The other two senior jgames will be Ruru v. Linwood, at Linwood Park, and Hornby v. Sydenham :itHorn by. Men's and Women's llockey All the senior men's hockey fixtures to-day will be played on the Hagley Park fields. Sclwyn will meet Sydenham on ground No. H, Technical will meet Trinity on No. 7. and University and Redcliffs will play en ground No. C.
