CAR GOES OVER BANK
DRIVER KILLED ACCIDENT NEAR CHEVIOT ! i Failing to negotiate a sharp bond ; on the Phoebe-Leamington road, six < miles from Cheviot, inte yesterday 1 afternoon, a sedan car containing two : persons crashed over a bank into a ' gully 100 feet below. j The driver, Mr Geoffrey A. May- j bury, a married man, aged about 35 years, a motor-agent, of 111 Ferry road, Clnistchureh, was killed. The other occupant, Mr A. D. Cooper, a 1 farmer, of Spotswood, suffered a frac- ] turcd left, leg, abrasions, and shock. i The accident occurred on a portion 1 of the road which runs along the t west bank of the Leamington river. < Mr Maybury was driving Mr Cooper « to his home at Spotswood about 5.15, " ana at a sharp bend the ear left the j road, overturning several times us it hurtled into the bed of a creek at . the bottom of a gully. Both driver 1 and passenger were thrown out, and I they were found beside the car at the 1 bottom of the gully. The car was i badly damaged. 1 A farmer, Mr .Tames Beckett, saw i the accident happen from the other t side of the river, a distance of 400 or r 500 yards, and he went immediately } to give assistance. Mr Cooper was attended by Dr. L. U. Marshall, of Cheviot, and was able * to return to his home. The body of 1 Mr Maybury was taken to the police c station at Cheviot, and an inquest: will f be opened at Cheviot to-day. \ t t SMALL BOY INJURED s A boy named James Davies, aged six a years, of 132 Hills road, Shirley, had d his left leg fractured yesterday after- 1 noon when a bicycle he was riding u came into collision with a motor-ear n in Edgeware road. He was admitted to the Public Hospital. c u CAR OUT OF CONTROL * c ii A motor-car driven by Mr J. R. Kilian, of Oaro, went out of control at the corner of Mill road and Athelny road, near Kaikoura, on Wednesday £ evening. Mr Kilian was returning n with Mr W. Morgan, another settler, </ from Blenheim. The windscreen of the car was broken, and Mr Morgan f received injuries to his head from flying glass. He was attended at the P Kaikoura Public Hospital. BOY CYCLIST KILLED (rilESa ASSOCIATION TELEOEAIt.) AUCKLAND, June 21. Fatal head injuries were received jy a cyclist, James Frederick Camiron, aged 15, of Panmico, when the nachine he was riding was involved n a collision with a motor-car in J an inure road this afternoon. The lad yas riding from Ellerslie in the direcion of Panmure, and when attempting 0 pass a motor-van travelling in the !ame direction lie collided with a notor-car which was going toward Sllerslio. The cyclist suffered severe lead injuries and died almost immediitely. CYCLIST FATALLY INJURED (PHES3 ASSOCIATION TELEOHAII.) HAWERA, June 21. Joseph Leggett, aged 60, married, of lawera, died in hospital last evening, 'oliowing an operation for head inuries suffered in a collision between 1 bicycle he was riding and a car iriven by James M. Collins. The colision occurred near Leggett's home, vhen he was returning from a repre:entative Rugby game.
