With one fall each, and Detton during the final round making treated dives through the ropes, Oki Shikina gained a points decision before a packed house at Palmerston North this evening. The verdict was popular and the bout was interesting after the third round. Shikina's fall came after a succession of jolts, arm and hip rolls in the fourth round, and Detton's equalising tall came early in the seventh after headlocks, bunts, and jolts had rattled Shikina. The Japanese recovered quickly and after Detton had failed to connect with a flying tackle early in the concluding round, was able to avoid rushes by the American, who did some spectacular diving through the ropes. Santen, in the third round, brought Bey down with a double leg-hold, securing a double toe-hold which lie barred, applying steady pressure to obtain the first l'all. Ali Bey dumped Santen twice in the fourth round and equalised with a fall with a body press and a reversed Japanese armbar. The latter part of the bout was marked by a good deal of punching. Santen had Bey groggy with four Hying tackLcs in the sixth round, but j with the last tackle struck his nose] on the Turk's knee and Bey pinned him while stunned with a body press.
