MOTOR-CYCLING
j PIONEER SPORTS CLUB I FIXTURES ; June 4—Meeting of general committee. , June 9—Hill climbs. June 17—Miniature T.T. races. The hill climbing competitions postponed from last Saturday owing to the ! unsafe condition of the course, caused | by the continual soakage down the hill after the recent heavy rains, will'now be held on a road, course with a good solid surface, the location di which will- ba announced to competitors when they assemble at the club house at 2 p.m. to-morrow week. The hill chosen is ideal for the purpose, and close to the city, the length of the climb being approximately 600 yards. The surface over the whole distance is excellent, the grade for half the distance is one in nine, and for the rest of the journey about one in eight: there are five corners <mostly of the full throttle variety), and the hill is such that it will take every ounce of ! speed possessed by the machine, and every ounce of ability possessed by the rider. This will be a good opportunity for riders to take part in a type of event for which there has been a persistent demand; consequently a good entry list is anticipated. The programme is as follows: 250 c.c., 350 c.c., unlimited c.c., and a sealed handicap event, open to machines of any power. Entries have been reopened and will now close at 9.30 this evening at the clubhouse. All competitors must wear crash helmets, each will be allowed one practice climb on the day of the events, and one for each event in which he is competing, nrovided that if a rider enters one machine in more than one ;of the scratch events he will be allowed | only one run to decide his place in these scratch events. Any rider who practices on the hill before the events I will be liable to disqualification. On the Sunday week following the hill climbs the Pioneer Club will hold a series of miniature Tourist Trophy races at Harewood: as these will be the concluding events of the current season, as a goodwill gesture the comi mitt.ee has decided to make them open to all riders, whether they are members of this club or otherwise. All interested are invited to meet at the clubhouse at 10.30 a.m. on June 17. Milk, tea. sugar, and hot water will be provided by the club as usual.

Herb. Mpore. of Greymouth, a new challenge cup, to be known as the Herb. Moore challenge cup, has been added to the list of club trophies. To encourage the social side of the club's activities, points for the new trophy will be awarded for participation in all social events, as well as for sporting competitions, thus making a distinction between the Moore Cup and the Vimiera Cup, which are solely sporting events. CANTERBURY AUTO-CYCLE CLUB FIXTURES June 16 —Hurly Burly. July 14—High speed trial. August s—Trips—Trip to Lake Lyndon (weather permitting). September 15—Beach racing. October 20—Hill climbing. Twelve competitors took part in the paper chase held on Saturday afternoon, which proved very popular with the riders. The course started from Church corner and included Yaldhurst, Greendale, Tai Tapu, Halswell, and concluded at McLennan's garage in Lincoln road. The roads were in good order, although the shingle was fairly deep in places. The hares have to be congratulated in the manner they laid the trail, and the nature of the course. There was no shortage of intersections for laying false trails, and at one part of the journey five roads intersected, the consequence being that five competitors took the wrong road (although the course was marked). The results were: A. Cooper .. 1 O. Edwards .. ..2 J. Bourne .. .. S
