Professor J. Shelley presided at a meeting of the Society for Imperial Culture at the Teachers' Tra'nintc College on Saturday evening. A large number of members and friends cnjoved an interesting musical prop'^m' 1 and wore addressed by Mr G. J>vn, ]ecHi" o r in at Canterbury University College, on "po"?i» Earlv of Commerce." The musical programme was ;;iven by Mrs Ross Brodie. Miss Bessie Pollard, the Misses Doris and Eileen Eeck, and Major Lumis. A vote of thanks was passed to those who had contributed to the entertainment of the evening, and supper was served at the conclusion of the meeting. PATRON AL FESTIVAL CEREMONY AT ST. HEDE'S COLLEGE The students, staff, and friends of St. Bede's College will celebrate today the feast of the patronal saint, St. Bede, at functions in the morning and afternoon. The solemn Pontifical High Mass will be celebrated in the college chapel in the morning, when Bishop Brodie will deliver an address. The plain chant Mass will be sung by the boys of the college. In the afternoon the commemoration service will be held at the college at 2.45. The order of the service will include the reading of an address of welcome to the Bishop and of the list of benefactors to the college. The address will be given by the Rev. Father Schaefer, S.M., of the Marist Novitiate at Palmerston North. The solemn benediction of the blessed Sacrament will take place in the college chapel. ________ CARD PARTY AND DANCE • A largely attended and enjoyable card party and dance, organised by the Burwood School Committee, was held in the school room on Saturday when euchre and dancing were enjoyed. Mr J. Southward conducted community singing, which was greatly appreciated. The music for the dance was supplied by Mr and Mrs J. Southward. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by Mr R. Vincent. The winners of the Monte Carlo dance were Miss Brosnahan and Mr F. Wetherall. The euchre prizes were won by Mrs G.
