HEAVY KAIN IN THE MOUNTAINS Heavy rain in tin watershed of the Waimakaviri river on Monday and Tuesday brought a flood on Tuesday night- At midnight the level of the river at the main traffic bridge near the Y/aimakariri River Trust's construction camp was nearly four i'cet above normal, but that was the peak of the flood and the water subsided .steadily all day yesterday. The rainfall at Arthurs Pa?s for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. on Tuesday was lin; for the same period on the previous day it was 1-1 in. The rain stopped yesterday morning, and there was no danger that the river would rise again Late yesterdav afternoon the level 'had fallen to two feet above normal. It was stated that there had been no flooding of land along the river's bank, and that the conservation work which is being carried out by the trust was not interfered with.
