; Nearest Bnltic port to Berlin and centre of a large part of Gorman Bn!I tie trade. Stettin has in past years ; been considerably hampered by ice in hard winters. Great importance is therefore attached to the launching of a new ice-breaker there. Christened Stettin, she develops 2300 horse-power under forced crraught with a normal 1800 horse-power. With these powerful engines she will be capable of convoying ships through the heaviest ice to the harbour. They give her a speed of 13 knots. Interest is attached to her large reserve bunkers. With these she will be able to coal vessels in emergencies on the voyage up the gulf to Stettin from the sea.
