MOTIONS OF SYMPATHY

Several motions of sympathy were passed at the meeting of the Christchurch City Council last night. In his statement the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., drew attention to the deaths recently of Mr T. H. Davey, Mr W. Thomson, Mr H. J. Beswick, and Mrs E. Paterson. Mr Davey was formerly a member of Parliament and served on many local bodies in Christchurch, including the St. Albans Borough Council. He was Mayor of St. Albans in 1897. Mr Thomson was the father of Traffic Inspector R. G. Thomson. Mr Beswick died in London recently. He was a member of the Christchurch City Council in 1894 and Mayor in 1896". He was also a Sinking Fund Commissioner from 1904 to 1929. Mrs Paterson was the wife of Mr E. Paterson. manager of the council's quarry. Motions of sympathy with the relatives of these persons were passed.
