THE WHITE BUTTERFLY
TO THE EDITOH OF THE PHESS. Sir,—ln "The Press" of Wednesday, April 18, there was a picture of the White Butterfly and a short account of its appearance in the South Island. From time to time during the last few years there have been articles in your paper on the White Butterfly, a.,d notices of captures made round Christchurch, in the Heathcote Valley and at Timaru. Now, in your article of last week it is stated that "Straggler" was informed that the White Butterfly had been seen at Westport, Greymouth, Nelson, and Blenheim. I was under the impression that this pest had only been definitely recorded from the Christchurch and Timaru areas in the South Island. Can any of your readers give the exact or approximate dates of captures made at Westport, Grevmouth, Nelson, and Blenheim? If specimens have actually been recorded from these areas, it would be interesting to know whether the pest had spread outwards from the Christchurch and Timaru areas, or whether fresh importations from the North Island occurred via other ports.— Yours, etc., INTERESTED. April 23, 1934.
