Mr H. R. Harmer, a London stamp expert, landed at Plymouth recently with seven suitcases, containing the famous Hird collection of foreign stamps, worth £150,000, believed to be the largest collection ever shipped. It was thought at first in Plymouth that a duty of 10 per cent., £15,000 — would have to be paid on the collection, but obsolete postage stamps are one of the few imports not liable to duty. Mr Harmer took the collection to London.
