CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP SALE TO SWIFT COMPANY (MESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAMS.) WELLINGTON, April 23. Cabinet has approved the issue of a license transferring the ownership of the Wairoa meat works from the Wairoa Farmers' Co-operative Meat Co., Ltd., to the Swift New Zealand Co., Ltd. WAIROA, April 23. Advice has been received of the completion of negotiations for restartin? the meat works at Wairoa. The works were damaged by the earthquake in 1931. and a fire three days later destroyed the cold storage block. The company was successful in its claim for insurance, receiving £66,000, but almost the whole amount went to the bank to satisfy, its claim. Since then rebuilding operations have hung fire. It is understood that a sale has been made to a strong firm, the sum of £BO,OOO being involved—£4o,ooo for distribution to shareholders, and the remainder for the reconstruction and reconditioning of the works. The plans for next season may provide for the handling of 4000 sheep and lambs a day, also 150 head of cattle. The directors met to-day to consider tenders for reconstruction and other business. MINING MAHAKIPAWA RETURN The mine manager reports that the washup for the week produced 101 ounces alluvial gold. CHARLESTON The Charleston Sluicing Company's return for the fortnight, which ended on Saturday, April 21. was 22 ounces of alluvial gold. TALISMAN DUBBO The Talisman Dubbo return for last week was £321 actual realisation from 28 tojis of ore crushed. LAWSON'S FLAT The secretary reports that the washup for the two weeks ending April 21 resulted in 330z 14dwt of retorted gold. This, together with the 26 ounces lodwt obtained on April 7, totalled 60oz 9dwt, for 337 hours' sluicing. . Mr H. Lowther has been appointed working manager, and took up his duties on Thursday last. New tables are being installed at the end of No. 1 tail-race under the supervision of Mr D. Dennehy, and should be in full working order in about two weeks' time. PADDY'S POINT (PfIESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, April 23. Paddy's Point Company advises the completion of a paddock for a return of 290z 4dwt. The time occupied was four weeks. GILLESPIE'S BEACH (PEXSS ASSOCIATION TELIOR.VM.) DUNEDIN, April 23. The directors advise that there had been a mishap to the dredge, and there was no return last week.
