MEETING OF NKW ZEALAND HO A HI)
The first meeting of Die New Zealand Poultry Board was held in Wellington recently, the members present being Colonel J. Pow, Messrs G. S. Bates, T. H. Evans, J. Hutton, A. Ironside, and S. F. Marshall. Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director-General of (he Department of Agriculture, also attended and occupied the chair pending the election ot a chairman. Dr. Reakes extended a welcome to the members of the newly constituted board, and conveyed a message from the Hon. C. K. Macmillan, Minister for Agriculture. Mr James Hutton (Otago) was unanimously elected chairman of the board for the ensuing year. Mr J. N. McLean was appointed secretary temporarily. It was resolved to call for applications for the position of secretary. Proposed regulations under the Poultry-runs Registration Act were submitted by the Department of Agriculture, and approved with the exception of minor recommendations. The board's finance, the organisation of the poultry industry, essential matters connected with the administration of the Poultry-runs Registration Act. and other important matters, were discussed. The next meeting was fixed for May 9. An administration committee, consisting of Colonel Pow and Messrs Bates and Ironside, was appointed with authority to act on behalf of the board, to an extent specified, during the intervals between meetings of the board. Members expressed their satisfaction with the progress made at, the initial meeting, which had paved the way for tackling the many problems confronting them and the poultry industry. Mr AV. Turner, vice-president of the New Ze.aland Poultry Association, interviewed the board about matters affecting his association.
