CURRENT NOTES

Dr. L. A. Lewis, formerly superintendent of the Rotorua Hospital, and Mrs Lewis are staying with Professor and Mrs F. Sinclaire, Park lane, Fendalton. They will leave for England with their two children on Friday.

Mrs Angus McDonald (Lumsdcn), who is visiting her mother, Mrs W. Cunningham, Papanui road, will leave for the south on Wednesday. Mrs Derrick Gould (Fendalton) will be the guest of her sister. Mrs H. Sinclair-Thomson, Timaru, for the Williams-Elworthy wedding to-morrow.

Mr and Mrs Angus Gunter will leave in a fortnight on their return journey to Europe. Miss Doreen Hight (Rugby street) will leave to-day for n short visit to Dunedin and" Mosgicl.

Mr and Mrs Denis Chapman (The Ranchc, West Eyreton) are paying a short visit to Mr and Mrs Hugh Ensor, Double Hill.

Mr and Mrs S. Langeveldt (Rugby street, Merivale) will leave on May 1 by the Aorangi for a visit to Canada and the United States.

Mrs Webbe*r (Oamaru), Misses Alice Hannan and Joan McConville (Papanui road) have left for Greymouth to attend Miss Alice Doogan's wedding, which will take place today. Mr and Mrs Jack M. O'Donohue arrived from Wellington yesterday to spend a few weeks with Mrs O'Donohue's mother, Mrs R. Godfrey, Cashel street.

Mrs J. T. Martin (Kelburn, Wellington) is the guest of Mrs G. J. Smith. Riverlaw. St. Martins.

Mr s J. B. Struthers is a passenger from England to Lyttelton by the Tainui, which left Southampton for Auckland on March 23.

The "Southland' Times'' announces that a marriage lias been arranged and will take place shortly between Struan Watson, of Bombay, India, third son of Mr and Mrs J. 'L. McG. Watson, of Invercargill, and Helen, daughter of the late Mr P. Asser and Mrs Asser, of Auckland.

A marriage has been arranged, and will take place in June, between Nicholas Townshend, only son ol Mr James and Lady Agnes Durham, and Joy, youngest daughter of Lieut.-Col. W. B. JJu Pre and Mrs Du Pre, of Wilton Park, Beaconsfield, Bucks.

Mr Neil Orchard (Christchureh) has been appointed to the position of architect to Messrs C. W. B. Simmonds. Ltd., a London finance company incorporating Park Estates, Company, and Oakwood Estates, Limited, so that he anticipates remaining in England for several years. Mr and Mrs Orchard have taken a house on the Watford bypass, and they have staying with them at present Mr Gethin Owen (Christchurch). During the summer vacation they hope to make a tour of the southern and western coasts.

Mrs H. A. Knight. Racecourse Hill, is convener of a committee which is organising a dance to be held in the Memorial Hall, Darfield, on Thursday evening, April 26, in aid of St. Saviour's orphanages, the New Collegians' band will supply the music for dancing, and bridge and other card games will be arranged in the lounge. This annual effort to help St. Saviour's orphanages promises to be an outstanding success.
