♦-- ]'Htss AUCKLAND. April L'J. Three detectives raided an opium den in Nelson street last night. They found a tVapdoor barring the entrance to t: o upper storey. One Chinese escaped I'' a widow, but three were arrested, ai.d to-day they were lined ,1:115 each. The magistrate, Mr Wilson, remarked: "These opium smokers cannot keep away from the drug., and I think there should be some place whetv they could be placed for, say. lmonths to get the cilect of the nru.; out of their systems.
