A GENERAL INDICTMENT

TO TiJK VDlTuri u!' THE Sir.—ln directing your attention to the following blots on our present j mode of. living I wish to state that | I am not a "wowser'' but merely a j dissatisfied citizen. The blots are as j follows: j il) Too much worry is placed on i young shoulders these days. Too, many young people are in responsible j positions for which they are paid ; wages representing only part of their | worth. Too many people use the credit, system to < xcess and deprive mer- j chants for long periods of their hard- j earned money. Too many people make j purchases without knowing the j wherewithal to pay for them. 1 (3) Too much publicity is given m j tin; newspapers and on the radio to the fporl of horse-racing. >4l Too many crooning jazz num- , bors an.' heard d;uly over tin 1 wireless. ■s> Too many oop-doop-a-doop minibers arc played before the commencement of the talkies in our theatres. Little or no interest is taken in these records, and it would be better for the nerves if there were no entr'actes in talkie programmes. iC> Too much lip-stick and powder are ','scd by the modern woman. ! Natural beauty is but seldom seen. I 17) Too many of our young women j attempt to emulate the deeds of our i young men at dances, parlies, etc. l 1 , refer' to the increasing number of | women who smoke and drink. How j can women expect to be respected ii ] they carry on these degrading prac- ! tices. I • iii> Too many girls swear and talk j like men. A conversation nowadays between a man and a woman is the same as a conversation between two men. '!li Too many of our young men have an inclination towards liquor. This is probably due to the influence of university students whose paper "Canta" seems full of references to bee.'. Uo> Too many people are cynical j towards everything. There is no love j for one another a:; there should be. ! P.u' of course I may be all wrong. 1 --Your::, otc.. GEORGE BERN IK SURE. April JO. 1934. i When this kite;- was referred In the editor of "Canta" he Mated that it was, to make any comment. I
