AVON AMATEUR CLUB
Tin.' Avon Amateur Cycling Club opened the second series of points races with a l.'imile event at ilairchau on Saturday afternoon. Twenty-two riders competed, with K. Koruitiaiia, 1.. Neill, 1". Norrell, ami 11. ]■'. I'earl on scratch concrting a start of four minutes to the limit riders. The race was held round a Mock vi two miles and a half, and in the first lay the scratch men gained 20 seconds on the leaders. With half the distance covered the hcratcli men were, 2min 4Usee behind. In the fourth lap the two leading bunches were together, with the scratch men 2min 2sec behind. Two riders off Jmin, C. Williams and W. V,. Walker, were ridinif well together. At this stairc they had trained three seconds on the scratch men. At the bell V. Stoddart and A. Williams (.'iniin) had taken the lead, with T. liibson following 1-1 seconds later. C. Williams and W. Ci. Walker had Rained a further It) seconds nn the scratch men. A. Williams and Stnddart fought nut a fine finish. Williams wimitns by a little more than a lonirlh. RUN TO COUTTS ISLAND A mvsterv social run was held bv the Avon Amateur Cyelini; Club yesterday. About CO riders took part. The party -went to Coutfs Island, where an enjoyable time was spent in football, cricket, and races. Two novelty races where bicycles had to bo pushed backwards resulted: First race: J. Crofts 1, A. Pain, 2. It. Birch :;. Second race: S. Barlow 1, (J. Fiartrum 2, 11. Smithers 3. In a slow cycle race A. Dann was first and 11. Birch second. C. Williams was the only rider to qualify in a second race. A novelty flat race resulted in u tie between R. LSturrock and M. F. Pearl. A football match resulted in n win by three (ronls to one for a team captained by L. Neill against J. Brown's team.
