SMOKE CONCERT
There was a large attendance ot active and honorary members at the annual Anzac smoke concert of the Lyttelton Returned Soldiers' Association, which was held in the association's rooms on Satur3ay night, Mr J. Cox on presided, and there were present the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester), the Rev. F. T. Read, and Mr W. E. Leadley, representing the Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association, and representatives of the Richmond and the Sumner-Redclifrs Returned Soldiers' Associations, the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade, and the Christchurch Scottish Pipe Band. An address was given by the Mayor and the following toasts were honoured: —"The King"; "Absent Comrades," proposed by the president; "The Christchurch Returned Soldiers' Association," proposed by Mr H. H. Batten and responded to by Mr Read, "Sub-Branches," proposed by Mr Leadley and responded to by Messrs Coxon (Lyttelton) and Denton (Richmond); "Local Bodies," proposed by Mr A. Large and responded to by the Mayor and Mr J. Sargentina; "The Artists' and Press," proposed by Mr H. Meade I and responded to by Mr J. Patterson. During the honouring of the toast oil "Absent Comrades," "Last Post" was sounded by Mr E. W. Jeffries. Items were given as follows: —Songs, I Messrs W. Couch, Koskella, J. Patter-! son, H. H. Batten; humorous items and war-time stories, Mr J. Laurenson; a piano solo by Mr J. Wyatt. The accompaniments were played by Mr Wyatt. Golt ' j The Lyttelton Ladies' Golf Club held a Hag match for a trophy presented by Mrs J. Bundy, at Charteris Bay yesterday. The winner was Miss H. Sowden, who carried the flag to the eighteenth hole. Miss E. Sproule was the runner-up. A women's medal match played at Diamond Harbour yesterday was won jby Mrs T. Archer, 108-25-83. The two S best cards in a men's medal match j were those handed in by Mr J. Beck. 97-24-73 and J. Gower 94-18-76. At a meeting of the committee of the Diamond Harbour Golf Club held yesterday, six new members were elected. Dance There was a large attendance at an end-of-the-season dance, held in the Club Hall, Lyttelton, on Saturday night by the Canterbury Yacht and MotorBoat Club. The Herdman-Fisk orchestra supplied the music and Mr E. O. Sinclair was master of ceremonies. The committee comprised Messrs E. O. Sinclair (secretary), R. Priddy, F. Formal), K. Beaumont, M. Smith, J. Hobb.s M. J. Scott, M. Norris, and F. Collins. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Priddy, McGinty and Newton.
