[ (.SPECIAL, TO TUB J'HESS.) I GREYMOUTH. April 21. [ At a public meeting in the Salvation Army Hall, Greymouth, Inspector C. W. Lopdcll, vviio has been transferred to Hamilton, and Mrs Lopdcll, were entertained by citizens of Greymouth. Cr. R. J. Williams presided in the absence of the Mayor, Mr J. W. Greenslade, from whom an apology was received. Several complimentary speeches were made during the evening, and a presentation of a silver tea service to Mr and Mrs Lopdcll was made by Adjutant Duggan, of the Salvation Army. Members of the Police Force at Greymouth also met yesterday to say good-bye to Inspector Lopdell, and presented him with a set of bowls. Relief of Distress Each of 70 applicants was granted assistance from the Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund at Greymouth this week. The boot repairing depot repaired 28 pairs of footwear, the total value of the work being £8 7s 6'd. Mclirearty Memorial Donations to the fund to erect a memorial to Dr. Mcßrearly have been made by the following persons:—Mrs J. Keating, Mr G. Anderson, Mr S. A. N. Sullivan, Mrs J. L. Arnott, Mr and Mrs J. W. Dickson, and "Anonymous." Funeral The funeral of Mr John McKinty took place yesterday at the Karoro cemetery. Requiem Mass was celebrated at St. Patrick's Church by the Rev. Father McKeon, and the services at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. Father Long. The funeral was very largely attended, members of the Hibernian Society attending in regalia.

PERSONAL 'SPECIAL 10 THE I'llESs., REEFTON, April 21. Mr A. Spencer. South Africa, who has been on a short visit to his brother, Mr E. W. Spencer, Roefton. has left on return to the North Island, where Mrs Spencer is visiting relatives. The Inangahua Agricultural and Pastoral Association's essay competition for school children on the recent show held in Reefton, resulted as follows: — Secondary schools: Annie Blackadder (Reefton District High School) 1, P. Tobin (Reefton District High School) 2. Primary schools: Pauline Floyd (Reefton Convent School) 1. Olive Smith (Cronadun School) 2. The essays were praiseworthy efforts, especially that of Annie Blackadder. wno made many suggestions for future shows. Reefton Domain Board A: a meeting of the Reefton Domain Board there were present: Messrs I. Patterson (chairman), J. B. Discaciati. and W. J. Duff (secretary). The chairman reported that he had interviewed the Under-Secretary of the Lands and Survey Department about the extending of the Strand Domain from the bridge to the Syphon, and that the matter was being duly considered. It was decided to make arrangements with Mr G. J. Dick to run sheep on the Strand, conditional on Mr Dick liming the ground. It was resolved to write to the Minister for Internal Affairs requesting the allocation of £SOO from art union funds for carrying out improvements to the Strand Domain.
