NOTES ON THE RACING From End to End Real Pal drew the inside position, and commencing smartly he and Grace McElwyn made the early running from Lil Guy, Dandy Locanda, and Treasure Trove. This was the order with a round to go and down the back stretch. Ileal Pal led into the straight and was not afterwards seriously troubled 1,0 win by a couple of lengths. Treasure Trove had to be hard driven to stall oil a determined challenge by Dandy Locanda. Grace McElwyn was close up fourth, just ahead of Lil Guy. Myra Chenault, and Daniel. The winner, Real Pal. is only three years old, but in this race he behaved like an old stager and the outing should do him a world of good. He has plenty of speed and stays reasonably well. Treasure Trove was allowed to go out at a good price considering his promising form at the Cheviot meeting, but. he may never be a good one. The best of the unplaced division was Grace McElwyn. a fashionably bred two-year-old that wiil derive sonic benefit I'mm the race. Kotin?a Outclasses Held Giving away 48 yards in the Stewards' Handicap. Kotinga was in front before half a mile had been covered and from this on she was not troubled to win hard held from Royal Parrish. who was her nearest attendant throughout. Kolinga's running at Ashburton pointed to an easy victory, and she was plainly better class than thosi- opposed to her. She is not a good stayer, but. in this race there was li'tlc to bent. Royal Parrish showed speed, but was unsteady in his gail. and Header finished a long way back. It. was a very poor race, but this may be accounted for by the time of 3min 33 .'i-a.-.ec registered from a 3niin 47sec marl;. Ileal Burton Stays Wc'.l Much interest was shown in the Kaikoura Handicap, and Camera, fieal Burton, and Royal Escort were very evenly backed. Social Pest, with Real Burton and Warbird. made practically all the running, while Camera was in a handy position over the last halfmile. Social Pest had had enough by the time the straight was reached, and Real Burton and Camera engaged in a punishing finish. Heal Burton held on the better and won by half a length. The winner showed a good deal of stamina in her battle down the siraighl and won rather impressively. Camera ran a fine race and met one just too good on the day, but Social Pest faded out badly when asked a question, and Attorney disappointed. Warbird was the only other one to make a showing, and Hie form shown by Attorney wa.very poor. Royal Escort stood on the mark and took no part in the race.

A Bis Dividend The Kekorangu Handicap was a complete boil-over lor backers, for Dollydora. who harl run unplaced in the first race and had pulled u;> very lame, wiin and paid a dividend of more than £OO. First Aid was (juiekest to be;: in and attended bv Treasure Trove, Grace McElwyu. Lit Guy. Dandy I.ocanda. and Olax made I.llc- running for must (if the journey. Three furlongs from heme Dollydora made a last rim. and half-wav down the strath eha'len'ied First. Aid. After a short tussle Dollvdora went a.way and won very easib. by a lene.ih from I-'irst Aid. with Happy liii-cl. Prince de (>ro. and Treasure Trove folluwin:; ir, that order. The winner had r.othin;.', to roeommend tier iii tlie way of public form an'd her lameness after her first run seemed to put her out of con-adoration as a prospective winner. She is a came one, but unsoundness may always trouble her. First Aid went a betler race this time and showed a certain amount of pre-!."ii.-c. and Manny Lhrd also improved on his previous pool' displays. Prince de Oro and Treasure Trove were the best of the unplaced division. Trotters or Gallopers The Suburban Handicap provided a woeful exhibition of unhoppled trotting, for not one of the competitors covered the journey without several mistakes. Header i.'aJJoped for about a furloni; in the early pari, but then settled down to stylish trotting which was varied by an occasional break. When keeping to his unit Header showed plenty of speed and could be made into a good horse. Royal Parrish, who f'urshed second, made several mistakes and so did Rose Chenaidt. who was third. The others refused to trot at any stage. Altogether it was a poor exhibition. Nobleman Improves Nobleman, n warm favourite, was quickest to begin in the President's Handicap, and with Jockeen and Lee Voyage in close attendance! he made all the early running. At the straight entrance Camera came with a fast run. and though Nobleman had to be hustled along at the finish he had plenty in reserve to win by a couple of lengths, with Golden Dollar third and Warbird and Lee Voyage following. ft was a good race, but Nobleman was definitely .superior to the others engaged. The win was overdue, for Nobleman's performances of late have nol been encouraging. Camera added to his' consistent record by again finishing second and Golden Dollar looked likely lo improve on his third placing. Hide a Wee's Easy Win Bide a Wee, driven by E. C McDermoti. was the public's fancy for the Kaitcrau Handicap, and though this mare is highly strung and a little doubtful at the barrier, she went away very smartly and made all the running, winning nicely from Real Pal and Harvestin. In this race Bide a Weeopened her winning account, although .mo had previously run good races. She is by Peterwah from Ivy Pointer, and is well enough bred to be a champion. If McDermott can cure her nervousness she will win more races. Real Pal beat, everything but the winner, and might have made a still better fight of it had he not bored in towards the rails at the finish. Harvestin cam'* fast in the straight but his effort was too long delayed. Golden Dollar Outclasses Field Great Antrim. Social Pest, and Garry Thorpe went off at a fast pace in the Farewell Handicap, but though Goldcji Dollar did not begin very quickly the field had not gone far before he was tucked in behind the leaders. Over the last part C. K. Yeatman's pacer fairly outclassed the field and won very caxilv from Garry Thorpe, who finished better than Social Pest or Groa' Antrim. Golden Dollar gave a finished display of pacing with the weight up and his trainer handled him with line judgment. He is a better horse th.au'his public performances have suggested and he may go on winning. Garrv Thorpe, who had lost ground al the start <■( his race earlier in the day, was alwavs in the picture and he finished wefl. hut both Social Pest and Great Antrim faded oul when a question was asked.

Mr C E Jones, a member of the committee, addressed about 100 pupils of Rangi-ruru girls' schoo in the K'-ivv League Hall on Saturday evenrng on th r subject "The Navy and the Empire." Motion pictures on naval Sects were also shown during the even ins-
