CHEVIOT At a meeting of the committee of the Cheviot branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association Mr C. F. Holton presided. The president reported that the schools had agreed to collect for the Poppy Day funds. The arrangements for the An/.ac Day services were dealt with and a programme similar to those of previous years was arranged. The president reported that; Mr W. K. Lascelles, of Christchurch, had accepted the invitation of the branch to deliver the address on An/.ac Day. A short service will be held at Spotswood in the morning and the county Anzac Day service will be held in the afternoon. It was decided to hold a reunion smoke concert this year instead of a ball. There was an attendance of 12 members at. the weekly practice and competition held at the Cheviot Hills range on Saturday' afternoon. The weather was fine, with a light easterlywind. The second rounds of the competitions for trophies given by Mr G. Struthers (open) and Mr C. Dierck. (handicap) were tired from the 200 and 300 yards ranges. Conditions were 10 shots and one optional sighter at the 200 yards range and seven shots and one optional sighter at the 300 yards range. W. A. Douglas was top scorer for Mr G. Struthers's trophy with 69 points, J. N. Cotlrell and C. Allen were second, equal, with 68 points each, and N. Eraser was fourth with 58 points. For Mr C . Dierck's trophy W. A. LEESTON Fine weather favoured Hie opening of the Ellcsmere Gun Club's 1934 season. There was a Rood attendance, which included several visitors from the Christchurch Club. For an opening day. the shooting was very good, a number of competitors scoring possibles in the various matches. Four clay bird sweeps were held, one of nine birds, and the other three of six bii'ds each. In the nine-bird match, F. L. Graham, I. Mawson, W. Quigley, A. H. Kimber, and A. N. It was decided to hold the opening day at the Hapuku School grounds on Saturday. It was decided to affiliate with the Marlborough centre.

KIMBERLEY The funeral of Mr C. E. Priest took place at the Kimberley cemetery. A short, service at the house was conducted by the Rev. T. Paterson, who also conducted the service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs T. Brown, A. Stott, W. Hahn, J. Steele. C. IT. McCausland, and H. Edc. Wreaths were sent by:—Father, mother, and family, Mr and Mrs F. L. Herbert, Mr and Mrs W. MAIREHAU The harvest thanksgiving service of (he Mairehau Presbyterian Church was held on Sunday. The Rev. E. Bandy preached in the afternoon and Mr J. Flewellyn at night. Music was played by Miss Beck and Miss D. Beck. The collections and produce will be given to the Presbyterian Orphanage at Papa n u i. A scries of "flag TiOO" evenings, which were successful last year, has been started. The prizes at the first evening were won by Mr and Mrs C. Chappcll. and Mr L. H. Wilson.
