He pleaded guilty. j Senior Sergeant Fox said that the , owner of the bicycle left it at the . corner of Aldwyn's road and Ferry j road at 1 p.m., and when he returned 1 it was gone. Accused was arrested ( on Thursday and admitted the theft. The bicycle had been disposed of in . Westport. J Aldridge was remanded to appear on , April 12 to allow the police to get possession of the bicycle. Bail wss allowed in self £IOO and one surety of £IOO. \ FALSE REPRESENTATION ; Edward Andrews Morgan, aged 28 ] (Dr. A. L. Haslam), was charged that : oil July 24, 1933, at Timaru, with in- • tent to defraud, he obtained £2 2s from Janet Rodger Brown by falsely ■ representing that he was qualified to treat persons for slimming and general health, and was in business as the New Zealand Figure Clinic, in Cathedray square. He pleaded guilty. Chief Detective W. H. Dunlop said that Morgan called on the complainant, a hairdresser in Timaru, and told her that he was in business as the j Figure Clinic. Complainant agreed to ■ take a course for £7 7s and paid £2] 2s. Morgan promised to return but j did not. Complainant went to the! police after seeing the result of a; similar case in Christchurch last; month. Morgan was convicted and ordered \ to come up for sentence if called on ! within 12 months, and was ordered to make restitution of £2 2s by weekly payments of ss. GAOL INSTEAD OF FINE Norman Pettitt, who said he could not pay the fine of £1 imposed on him for riding a bicycle at night without a light, was ordered to be arrested. "You can take it out if you like." said the magistrate. "I will," replied Pettitt. When the magistrate said he would be given seven days' imprisonment if he did not pay, Pettitt said: "I'll do them." TRAFFIC CASES For cycling at night without lights the following were fined 15s and costs; Charles Andrew Allen, Kenneth James Allen, Victor Anderson, James Campbell, Grant Duncan, Leonard Dunmill, Percy Francis Fleete, Ivan Illing, Francis Herbert Kent, William Durham Marks, Jock Poulsen, Joseph Saunders, Robert William Stephenson, William Wilkinson, Robert Cummings, Harold Ward, Roy McKenzie, Reginald Nixon (and 5s without costs for having no reflector), and William George Wilson. On similar charges the following were fined with costs: Cyril David Edmonds ss, Florence Douglas ss, James Grimley ss, Robert John Lee ss, Murray McGill ss. Jessie Orr ss, Edward Ernest Porter 10s, Richard Simpson ss, May Smith 5s (without costs). Leslie James Sweeney 10s. Lester Wetherall 5s (without costs), and Maude Whitla 5s (without costs). For cycling on the footpath the following were fined:—John Matson 5s and costs, Robert Wynne Owen 15s and costs. For negligent driving Robert Barter was fined £2 and costs and his license was endorsed; George Ballantvno Dollan was fined 20s and costs: Waller Ashbv 20s and costs; Roy Leonard Hamilton 10s and costs; Margaret Devenish Loughnan 10s and costs; Muriel Audrey Morrison 10s and costs; Albert John Tutton 20s and costs; and Lawrence W. Whittington 20s and costs (and 10s and costs for having no license). Roberto Edward Bennett was fined 5s and costs for not having a license and 10s and costs for driving without lights. For breaches of lighting regulations the following were fined, with costs: Benedict Elias Bernstein 10s, William Charles Jagger 5s (without costs), Ralph Newburgh ss, William Henry Robinson ss, Lester Edward Roi ss, Baron Shears 10s, Andrew James Thompson 5s (without costs), and Charles Hamilton Duff ss. For driving at a speed dangerous to the public Frederick Grubb was convicted and ordered to pay costs. For cutting a corner Albert Khouri was fined £1 and costs. Ernest Phillip Binns was fined 15.s and costs for riding a motor-cycle on the footpath.
