DEFENCE RIFLES AND MARK VII. AMMUNITION
TO THE llilTLiß </F Tlir I'RK^S. Sir, —Some time ago I bought a .303 rifle from the Defence camp at Burnham, and find that in using mark vii. ammunition it shoots at least three feet high in anything up to 200 yard?;. I have compared notes with several of mv friends who have the same type of rifle, and find that Ihey all do (he panic. Perhaps the military authorities could give some explanation of 11i!p, and I would like to hear it discussed through the medium of your paper. Thanki 11-4 you in anticipation. —Yours, etc., STALKER. Mclhvcn. April 4. 1034. [This litter was referred to the military authorities who stated that several types of .303 rifles and carbines were sold by the Defence Department, and the weapons took either mark VII. or mark VI. ammunition. Some were sighted for mark VII. ammunition and seme for mark VI. If mark VII. ammunition were used in a rifle sighted for mark VI. ammunition then the rifle would certainly shcot high, and the sights would required to be adjusted lo make the rifle suitable for mark VII. ammunition. If, however, the rifle was sighted for mark VII. ammunition and shot as high as the correspondent stated, I it would be advisable for him to con--1 suit the ordinance officer at the Burnj ham camp. The department had had no complains about the shooting of any of its rifles, and if the rifle shot as" high as the writer stated when the proper ammunition was used, the department would adjust the matter.]
