TECHNICAL COLLEGE AND MINISTER DEPUTATION'S REPORT The action of the Minister for Education ithe Hon. R. Masters) in asking for a certain expenditure from the Christchurch Technical College Old Boys' Memorial Hall fund for college equipment was given further consideration by the College Board ol Governors last evening. Several members objected to the matter being taken in committee, a net Mr Roberts'" said that the deputation should have presented a written icP °Mr West said that the deputation had come to an agreement with the Ministci, and that agreement was set out m the Minister's letter to the board If members wanted a written report he would move that the Minister's letter be taken as the deputation's report. , , , The Minister's letter to the board was as follows:--in connexion with the representations made to me on behalf of your board by Messrs West. Williams, and Graham. I have to say that I am prepared to modify the requirements ol my letter of March G with regard to the spending of £3700 on equipment. library, etc.. for the Christchurch Technical -School as follows: -That the board, in conjunction will' the department, spends forthwith the sum of .£1763 on equipment, library, etc. "That aiiv amount in excess of £IOOO paid' by the Unemployment Board to the Christchurch Technical School Board of Governors in connexion with the building of the memorial hall shall be spent forthwith as part of the £3700 for equipment, etc.-
"That the board does its utmost to liquidate the £IOOO mortgage at the earliest possible moment: and "That any amount between the lowest tender tor the memorial hall and the liquid assets of the board available for the building of Ihe memorial hall shall be spent in the equipment of the school." Alter a long discussion in committee the board resumed in open meeting, and the chairman reported lhat the architect was to be instructed to prepare plans for the amount of money available, the board having agreed to the terms contained in the Minister's letter. Messrs G. E. Franklin, J. J. Hurley, and A. H. Scales had asked to have their names recorded against the motion confirming the agreement. Mr Hurley said that rough plans for £12,000 had been drawn, and he asked if they could be modified to suit the £II,OOO available. Mr J. W. Graham said the Unemployment Board had extended (lie time for paying the building subsidy by three months.
