ENQUIRY INTO BRITISH SUGAR INDUSTRY

COMMITTEE OF INVESTIGATION (BKITISn OFFICIAL TVIBKLESS.) (Received April 5, 7.15 p.m.) RUGBY, April 4. The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr Neville Chamberlain) and the Minister for Agriculture (Mr W. E. Elliot) have appointed a committee to make a comprehensive enquiry into the condition of the sugar industry in the United Kingdom, including both home-grown beet sugar and imported sugar. Having in mind the changes in the structure of the industry which would follow upon its reorganisation under the Agricultural Marketing Acts, the committee will make recommendations for the structure and conduct of the industry, and, in particular, as to the application of State aid as far as this is considered necessary. The committee consists of Messrs Wilfred Greene, K.C.. chairman, Sir Kenneth Lee, and Mr Cyril Lloyd.
