MR ALAN MONKHOUSE ON RUSSIA
SUCCESS OF INDUSTRIAL UNDERTAKINGS
YOUNG PEOPLE ENTHUSIASTIC LONDON, March 25. Mr Alan Monkhouse, one of the engineers who were accused by the Soviet of sabotage at hydro-elec-tric works last year, in a speech at Sheffield, denied that the Soviet five-vear plan had failed. He said that "the plan had succeeded industrially at least to the extent of 60 per cent., and less agriculturally. He denied that industrial activity was mainly devoted to munition making. Russia did not want war, he said, but she feared attack. If a real election were held in Russia he believed everybody under 29 would vote for communism, but their elders would probably outvote them.
