LEAVE OF ABSENCE GRANTED
I WORK OF CR. J. Y\\ BEANLAND | I'RAISFI) I Cr. J. W. Beanland's work as chairman of the works committee of the Christchurch City Council was praised at the meeting of the council last evening when he asked for leave 01 absence to go for a trip abroad. Cr. Beanland asked for six months' leave of absence. In moving that the request be granted, the Deputv-Mayor. Cr. J. K. Archer, said that it would be recognised that in his capacity as chairman of the works committee of the council, and. until rccentlv. chairman of the Christchurch Drainage Board, and in manv other capacities, Cr. Beuniland had worked with untiring energv in the public service, and he trusted that, after his trip, he would return with renewed health and vigour to carry on these important duties. Cr. H. T. J. Thacker, in seconding the motion that the application be granted, said the good wishes of the whole council would go with Cr. Beanland on his travels. Cr. Thacker also commended Cr. Beanland's work for the unemployed of the city. Cr. E. K. McCombs. M.P.. and Cr. T. Andrews also praised Cr. Beanland's energy, impartiality, and loyalty. The motion was carried by acclamation. ~ Cr. Beanland thanked councillors for their remarks and the help they had given him as chairman of the works committee. A councillor to take his place as chairman will be chosen at the next meeting of the committee.
