CANTERBURY COLLEGE

MEETING OF COUNCIL The Canterbury University Coli lege Council met yesterday, Mr C. IT. Aschman presiding. Others ! present were:—Miss K. M. Gresison. Miss E. A. Chaplin the ! Hon. G. J. Smith, M.L.C., Mr L. J. ! Howard. M.P.. Dr. J. Hight. Dr. G. M. !L. Lester, Messrs H. D. Acland W. A. 1 Banks R. A. Campbell, A. E. Flower, R. Hepburn, and L. B. Wood. It was announced that the Canterbury Public Library would be closed on Good Fridav and Easter Monday, but that it would be open as usual on Saturday, March 31, and on Easter Sunday, April 1. The thanks of the college were expressed to Dr. G. M. L. Lester for his gift to the School of Art of a book on nineteenth centurv costumes, and to Miss L. V. Tabart for the gift of two larse posters.

The'council expressed to Professor R. Speight its most grateful thank.s for his gilt to the college of his very valuable collection of lantern slides and microscopic slides. The former included subjects of geological interest over a long period of years, and the latter represented the result of a lifetime's research on the petrography of New Zealand rocks, as well as representative slides of rocks and orientated minerals from other parts of the world.
