| A GREAT RACEHORSE DEATH AFTER ACCIDENT i At the ureal age of SO years Bobrii koff. a champion of other days, met I with on accident on Mr T. H. Lowry's ! stud farm at Okawa, Hawke's Bay and had to be destroyed. BobrikofT was a black gelding by Finland from Gossip and was bred by Mr H. Friedlander at his Ashburton stud farm in 1904. Gossip was an Australiaii-brid mare bv Wallace (a son of Car bine) from Caroline by Carlyon-Tuber Rose bv Grand Flaneur and amongst her progeny were War Scare, War Talk, Blackguard, and Tete-a-tcte. BobrikofT was one ot the bargains secured at the sales of ICOj, when Mi 11. Friedlander's yearlings were sold and he went to the bid of Mr E. J. Watt, of Hawke's Jay, for 80 guineas. He was a well-grown colt, and was not started as a two-year-old, but at three Years he faced the barrier nine times, 'winning four races. Before he commenced racing he was transferred to Mr T. K. Lowry and did all his racing in that owner's colours. He had his first race in the Wanganui Maiden Hack Race, in which he finished second to Dusky Morn, but the following dav he won the Railway Handicap of live furlongs, and he followed this up by winning the Waipatu Hack Handicap and running third to Gold Crest and Elevation in the Hawke's Hay Guineas. He was thiru in the Railway Handicap and unplaced in the Newmarket Handicap at Auckland. He ran third in the Porangahau Handicap at Hawke's Bay, but won the Hawke's Bay Stakes, defeating amongst others Gold Crest. All Red, and Aborigine, while he finished up the season by winning the Cornwall Handicap of a mile and a quarter at the Auckland Winter meeling. In this race he carried 0-4. A High-Class Performer. : BubrikoiV opened his four-year-old I career by winning the Railway Handicap under I)-4, and after running uni placed in (he Stewards' Handicap at Riccarton ho gave a taste of his quality by winning the Jockey Club Handicap (if a mile under 9st defeating a lm; field that included All Rett, Sir Frisco, and Master Snult. Ho earritd li-11 to win the Stead Memor- ! ial Gold Cup in 2min 7sec, and with : !!-12 on his back he finished second ,' to All Red in the Auckland Cup and : won the Auckland Plate of a mile and a-half al the same meeting, de'fiating X'inmermai! and Master De- , lava!. lie carried il-I.'! when he I'mI Mud third to Diamond Star and Stylish in the Flying Handicap at j Napier Park and under it-11 he was Istconii to Provocation, il-1, in the North j Inland Challenge Stakes, while he was third to Sir Tristram and All Ked in the Autumn Handicap ri t Welilinglon.
