Archicacon Cholmondeley. died at St. George's Hospital on Saturday mornn- following an operation. Mr Cholmondeley was educated at :hrist's College, and after leaving ichooi entered the office of Messrs Duncan. Cottcrill. and Company, and >egan the studv of law. After his adnission as a solicitor, he practised at .Vaimate, and later at Christchurch. 3n the outbreak of the South African ,Var he joined the New Zealand Rough iiders as a sergeant, and during his | ;ervice in South Africa was awarded he Roval Humane Society's medal for | aving a follow soldier from drowning, i

He leaves a : widow and live children. i SIR (JKOIMiK PATON Private ad\ u e has been received in Wellington of the death of Sir George j Paton. chairman and managing director of the British Match Corporation, Ltd.. and of Bryant and Mav, Ltd., while on board ship travelling from the South of France. Born at Greenock m: August M. 1059. Sir George Paton was keenly interested in education and social welfare. During the war he was chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Match Control Hoard. He was also a member of Hie London Advisory Council of Juvenile Employment and a member of She council of the Industrial Welfare Society.
