♦ - MANY INTEIiKSTINL' VOLUMES i That old New Zealand books are i much in demand and are becoming increasingly valuable was proved at a Mile hold by Messrs .1. 11. Be.fhunc and Co. in Wellington last week. The New i Zealand portion of the catalogue comprised some 300 Jots, many of them | exceedingly rare. Bidding throughout was very "spirited, and many of the books sold at high prices. The 12 parts of the Canterbury Papers, bound in one volume, published from 1850 to 1852, with the four plates, but having the chart missing, sold for £lO 15s. Angas's New Zealanders Illustrated, published in 1847, i and a splendid copy, sold for £32. | This work contains 60 beautiful col- j oured plates on Maori life and scenes, with much descriptive matter. Captain Cook's Second Voyage Round the World, in two volumes, printed in 1777. containing numerous plates and rebound in full calf, sold for £0 as. Die.'Vonbnch's Travels in New; Zealand m two volumes. 1843. sold for £3 12s. Tins copy had a special interest as it was once owned by William Colenso. who annotated it with very sarcastic marginal notes.
