RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL
♦ The monthly meeting of the Rangii ora Borough Courxcil was held last evening. Present: T. Mayor (Mr W. ;A. Rowse), Crs. C. W. Tyler, H. K. ! Kippenberger, J. A. Ivory, C. S. Ayers. If. E. Martyn, E. W. Whitworth. and V*. T. M. Keir. The town clerk 'Mr J. Fraser.i reported that about u delegates had attended a meeting in the council chambers at Wellington and unanimously j decided to form an association to protect the electrical interests of boroughs and cities. He had been appointed to the executive and had also been appointed temporary secretary. An application of the sub-branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association for permission to hold its annual poppy day street appeal on April 10. and also for the use of the Town Hall for the Anzac memorial service on April H 3 if the weather was unfavourable for an outside service, was granted. On the recommendation of the fin- : ance committee it was agreed that a payment of £5 towards expenses of the delegate to the conference of the ! United Fire Brigades' Association be made to the fire brigade.—lt was also , decided that the council join the New j Zealand Municipal Electric Supply 1 Authorities' Association, j It was agreed that the mortgagee; ;of properties on which rates were owing be notified that a similar procedure be adopted with sewerage advances in arrears. It was agreed in regard to loan conversions, that a Treasury official be asked to advise the council when he would be in Christchurch making arrangements with other local bodies, so that an interview comu be arranged. On the recommendation of the t finance committee, it was agreed to j remit the penalty on rates if they are paid before March 31. ! It was decided to accept the offer jof the Sumner Borough Council to purchase one set of purifiers and [fittings for £IOO. | The librarian complained that sevi eral magazines and illustrated peri- ! odicals had been remov ed and not 1 returned. It was decided to put up notices ; offering a reward to anyone giving ; information or detecting persons taking the periodical.--. Miss N. Shankland (assistant-town clerk) tended her resignation. It was accepted with regret, and it was decided to advertise l'or a male assistant.
