Golf Tlii Richmond Hill Club will open its season this afternoon with a 14-. hole mixed foursomes event, for which players are to arrange their own partners and opponents. Bowls J. S. Man in has completed a remarkably successful season by winning the coveted Maddison trophy. His record of winning all three Sumner Club events and the championship, is one of which he may well be proud. His consistency is reflected in the ease with which he won all four rounds, the scores being 23-11, 20-11. 23-11. 28-11.

Sailing The season which will be concluded Very shortly, has been the most successful that the Christchureh Sailing ana Power Boat Club has experienced. There are now 70 boats belonging to members of the club, and indications are that all available space will be used for winter moorings. A number of boats from Lyttelton will also winter at Redcliffs, including the keelers Mana and loianthe. The club has recently gone to some expense in installing a r.ew slip and trolley for smaller boats. New additions to the club's fleet are Saltaire. a Takapuna class boat, a sailing dinghy. Wren, owned by J. A'Ccurt and the Dixie Kid, a larnch buiit by C. Monck. which for 16 years has been at Picton and is now owned by J. S. Hawker. A Wakatiri class beat will shortly be launched. Tennis With several events uncompleted it appears that the majority of the Sumcer Club's competitions will not be decided until very late in the year. RowingUnfortunately the unfavourable weather slowed up the painting of the Sumner-Redcliffs Club pavilion, but even in its uncompleted condition there is a very marked improvement. li_ is hoped to finish the first coat this afternoon. Three coats will be applied. During the winter some of the members will work on the interior of j the shed and will also put in hand repairs to the boats. Life-Saving Mr \V. S. Burford presided at a meeting of the committee of the Sumner . Life Saving Club on Thursday even- : The secretary was instructed to I advise the gala committee that it was ■ regretted that the club could not arrange a demonstration during the gala. Reference was made to the death .of the ciub's patron. Mr George Humphreys, and a motion was carried expressing sympathy with the relatives. "Ir F.
