I\lr Parkhurst has been a regular j visitor to New Zealand during the j , climbing sei.son for the last six years. Accompanied by Guides Alack and Cowan, of the Fox Glacier Hostel, Mr Parkhurst reached the Pioneer hut at j the head of Fox Glacier on March ' l.'i, and that day mad- what is be- . lieved to be the first ascent of an , unnamed peak immediately east of i New ton Pass. On the next day Mount | Haast was climbed in a .strong, cold i southerly wind, this being followed on j March 15 with an ascent of Glacier peak, when the strong wind and icy j conditions made the Koing diilieult, i and the tast I'JOO feet took five hours, j On March 16 I.endcnfeldt was i climbed, and on March 17. conditions being unsuitable for high climbing, attention was confined to the Pioneer , ! Ridge. On March 1"> the party went j ' over the Pioneer Pass, through the , ! head ice fall of the Haast glacier ana i to the Haast hut. and ultimately to j . ihe Hermitage. i
