TRANSPORT OF LIVE STOCK v srjtciA.r. to tit* rsiss.) GREYMOUTH. March 22. During the present week large consignments of live stock; have been railed from the West Coast to Christchurch. Last evening's train took 16 trucks of sheep, three of cattle, three of lambs, and two of pigs to the Addington market, and five trucks of sheep for the Islington freezing works. Ten trucks of sheep will go to Canterbury by this evening's goods train, and for the following evening 11 trucks have already been consigned. Cycle Racing Some keen racing was seen at Victoria Park last evening, when the Greymouth United Cycling Club held its final meeting for the season. P. Duffv won the medal presented by Mr U. Messenger for the most starts in senior racing. Results: — Basketball Relay-—Blaketown 1, Technical Old Girls 2, Greymouth Main 3. Blaketown won the shield presented for the basketball event. Simmonds; delegate to West Const Rugby Union. Mr T. O'Donnell; auditor, Mr M. J. Phillips; club captain, Mr F. McGrath; coach, Mr T. O'Donnell.

It was decided that the club colours should be green with red bindings. Firemen Hurt Wlnle engaged in a practice of the Hokotika Volunteer Fire Brigade at Weld street, Hokitika, yesterday. Frank Graupskv fell from a ladder a distance of 15 feet, landing on asphalt. He was admitted to the hospital suffering from shock and abrasions.

Hepburn, who will shortly leave the district. Mr \V". S. Pratt presided and the following bodies were represented: Old pupils' association, golf club, athletic and cycling club, boxing club, swimming "club. Rugby sub-union, cricket club, school committee, high school staiT. fire brigade, Rugby League club, country teachers, and basketball club. It was decided that Mr Hepburn be entertained before he left Recfton. Knox Presbyterian Church A special meeting of the members and adherents of the Knox Church was held to consider matters of interest, to the welfare of the congregation. The Rev. W. Fairlie Evans presided, and referred to various items to be dealt, with. He referred specially to the jubilee of the church, which will fall this vear. It was decided to add to (he number of the management board, and Messrs Buckley and Hammill were elected. It was agreed to adopt a dual system of envelope giving for Sunday and quarterly contributions. It. was decided to form a jubilee committee to act with the office bearers to make arrangements for the jubilee. Obituary The death has occurred at the Reefton Hospital of Mr Stanley Victor Magee. proprietor of the Buck's Head Hotel, Reefton, after a brief illness. Mr Magee was a member of the Bowling Club, the Jockey Club, the Trotting Club. among other sporting bodies, and was formerly a member of the' Fire Brigade. Before taking over the hotel, Mr Magee was engaged in quartz mining at the Progress Mine,

and coal mining at Bourke's Creek. He is survived by a widow, one son. and one daughter, as well as his father and mother, Mr and Mrs James Magee (Recfton), two brothers, Percy 'Auckland) and Alfred (Waiuta), and three sisters. Mesdames Sharpe and .Tones (Auckland) and Collis (Reefton). Mr Magee was born at Ballarat and was 43 years of age. The death has occurred at the Reefton Hospital of Mr Patrick Manton, after an illness of some months. He was a native of Western Australia and was 62 vears of age. He served in the Boer War. He was a miner, and was engaged in the North Island and for a time at Waiuta and Millerton,
